Introduction – A Blood-Soaked Beginning
Demon Slayer Season 01 begins with heartbreak and ends with hope, wrapped in beautiful animation and emotional storytelling. Set in Taisho-era Japan, the story follows a kind-hearted boy named Tanjiro Kamado whose family is brutally slaughtered by demons. His sister Nezuko becomes a demon herself, but still shows signs of humanity. This tragedy sets Tanjiro on a path that is less about vengeance, and more about saving the last family he has left. The first season is a powerful journey of trauma, training, brotherhood, and the determination to protect others even when the world turns cruel.
The Tragedy and the Training (Episodes 1–6)
Tanjiro lives peacefully in the mountains with his mother and siblings, selling charcoal to support them. But one snowy evening, he returns home to find his entire family slaughtered by a demon. Only his sister, Nezuko, survives—but she’s been transformed into a blood-thirsty demon. Despite this, she still protects Tanjiro, showing she hasn’t completely lost her humanity.
Distraught but determined, Tanjiro encounters Giyu Tomioka, a stern demon slayer who initially tries to kill Nezuko. However, after witnessing her protect Tanjiro, Giyu spares her and sends Tanjiro to a former master named Sakonji Urokodaki. Tanjiro begins intense sword training under him, enduring brutal exercises designed to test both body and spirit. Urokodaki also hypnotizes Nezuko to see humans as family and demons as the enemy, creating the mental barrier that keeps her from attacking humans.
After surviving the life-threatening Final Selection—a week-long trial against demons—Tanjiro officially becomes a Demon Slayer and receives his black Nichirin blade. Nezuko sleeps in a small wooden box Tanjiro carries on his back, accompanying him as he sets off to find a cure for her demon curse.
The First Missions and New Friends (Episodes 7–15)
Tanjiro’s missions bring him into contact with terrifying demons: one who kidnaps young women at night, a demon in a manor with a drum that twists reality, and the powerful Lower Moon Five, Rui. On these missions, Tanjiro meets Zenitsu Agatsuma, a cowardly boy who begs Tanjiro to protect him. Despite his constant whining, Zenitsu is a prodigy while unconscious—unleashing deadly lightning techniques when asleep.
Later, they meet Inosuke Hashibira, a boar-headed warrior raised by animals who challenges anyone to a fight. Though wild and reckless, Inosuke eventually becomes a loyal companion. This trio forms an unlikely bond as they face demons together, with Tanjiro acting as their emotional core.
Mount Natagumo – Rui and the Spider Family (Episodes 15–21)
The group is sent to Mount Natagumo, where a family of spider-demons kills Demon Slayers mercilessly. The leader of this family is Rui, a member of the Twelve Kizuki (the elite demons serving the main antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji). Rui seeks a “perfect family” and threatens anyone who doesn’t comply with his twisted version of love.
In a heart-stopping battle, Tanjiro uses all his strength to protect Nezuko, unlocking a secret Hinokami Kagura flame breathing technique passed down from his father. Combined with Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art, they nearly defeat Rui. Though Rui survives briefly, he is finished off by Giyu Tomioka, who arrives just in time.
Nezuko’s willingness to fight alongside Tanjiro captures the attention of the Demon Slayer Corps’ leader, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who sees something pure and extraordinary in their sibling bond.
Recovery, the Hashira, and the Road Ahead (Episodes 22–26)
After the battle, Tanjiro and Nezuko are taken to headquarters, where Tanjiro must stand before the Hashira, the strongest Demon Slayers. Some insist Nezuko must be killed, but Giyu and Ubuyashiki defend her. After Nezuko proves her restraint by refusing to attack a Hashira even when cut, the Master decrees that she is under his protection.
Tanjiro and the others recover at Butterfly Mansion under Shinobu Kocho’s care, where they undergo physical rehabilitation and breathing training. Zenitsu recovers from his poison, Inosuke from broken ribs, and Tanjiro from his injuries. Though the season ends quietly, the journey ahead is clear: Tanjiro must master his newfound technique, grow stronger, and get closer to the demon who caused everything—Muzan Kibutsuji.
With his comrades by his side, Season 01 ends with hope—a team ready to face demons, united by shared pain and unbreakable bonds.

Conclusion – A Story of Pain, Bonds, and Hope
Demon Slayer Season 01 isn’t just about killing demons—it’s about how people survive grief and protect the people they love. Tanjiro’s journey teaches us that kindness isn’t weakness and that strength grows from compassion. Through every battle, every tear, and every breath, he fights not just for victory, but for humanity itself.
This season ends with a promise: the story is only beginning, and Tanjiro will walk through fire if it means saving his sister and purifying this cruel world.
